Our new Family Center provides a safe haven for women with children.
Our Beginnings
The New Orleans Mission opened in 1989 as an outreach program of the Los Angeles Mission. With the help of New Orleans' area residents, the Mission soon stood on its own and has been independent since.
The Mission Expands
Our initial facility, a former warehouse, could only accommodate men. So in 1995, the Mission purchased an abandoned home behind the main facility. With generous support from the community, we converted that building into a women’s center, where as many as 16 homeless women can find shelter and spiritual guidance.
In 2008, we opened the family center to meet the need of single women with children.
Today
The goal of our programs is to bring the homeless into a structured program to address addiction and other problems and to allow them to re-enter society as productive, sober citizens.
We provide dinner, shelter and breakfast for around 100 men and 15 women each day. We also offer spiritual guidance, educational classes and case management to anyone needing assistance.
