Modular Shelter Erected to Aid Housing Problems

Nearly two-dozen volunteers from churches around the country spent this week erecting a modular shelter at the New Orleans Mission. The shelter will help house the homeless living in Duncan Plaza.

When complete, the 120-foot by 30-foot structure will be climate controlled and capable of sleeping 128 men.

Bill Nix, an airline pilot and member of First Baptist New Orleans, led the project, which was funded largely by First Baptist New Orleans and the Louisiana Baptist Convention. David Crosby, Senior Pastor of First Baptist New Orleans, helped the Mission obtain funding for emergency shelter operations.
