The new Family Center was built through the generosity of HomeAid and AmeriQuest Mortgage.
The 4,400-square-foot Family Center is a transitional living facility for single women with up to four children. The center can accommodate six families with private bed and bathrooms and is located on the same campus as the men's and women's shelters. Run by Martha McCarty, the Family Center provides a clean, stable environment while helping single moms gain employment and secure permanent housing. As a transitional facility, moms must work full-time and participate in daily chores and activities. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the former Family Center building, but with continuing support from HomeAid, a $350,000 donation from The Federal Home Loan and Bank Foundation and a $750,000 donation from Ameriquest Mortgage, the Mission now has a brand-new, sustainable-design Family Center. |
