Success Stories
Nikki

Nikki came to our mission in June fleeing from an abusive relationship and seeking shelter from the weather and pain of the streets. Having to leave her only child in the custody of a distant relative, Nikki leapt at the opportunity provided at our women’s center to find refuge and the personal support for restoring herself as a mother and independent woman. While staying in the center, she was able to find employment and to save enough money to put down a$1,000 deposit on a new Section 8 home. Today Nikki has been reunited with her daughter, has found permanent employment and is enjoying her independence in her new residence furnished by the mission.

Laurie

Laurie arrived at the corner of our mission with nothing but her luggage and tears. Losing everything due to Hurricane Katrina, Laurie came to our mission seeking shelter and support. Being ill, we gave her shelter and helped her recover. She contributed so much to the center and eventually got a job of her own. Within 4 months, Laurie had gotten a FEMA trailer and was on her way to rebuilding her life. The mission was sorry to see her go, but was overjoyed to see her begin her new life.

Donnie

Prior to arriving at the mission, Donnie was living on the street and plagued with the disease of alcoholism. Losing everything to the disease, Donnie had no where else to go when he arrived at our doorstep. He entered the rehabilitation program and soon graduated. Donnie decided to remain at the mission, eventually coming on board as staff and being the driver for the mission for 9 years. He went through much in his life, including being stabbed and almost dying, but he remained on the right path and eventually left us to go live with his family in California.

Ron

Ron entered the rehabilitation program in 2004. He was one of the many thousands of homeless that wander the streets of New Orleans. He had lost everything before he came to mission. Soon after graduating the program, Ron got a steady job and eventually ended up starting his own business. He was reunited with his wife and child and today works with his son at his business. He continues to frequent the mission with his support and as a volunteer.
